Women Driving Safely
Safety when driving -
As soon as I get in my car, I lock my door, (central lock my door) . Ok by the time I am half way down my road after I have installed my cd player and adjusted the heating. There are many reasons to lock your door, whenever I pull up at lights and I am the first in line and the pedestrians are crossing, or always make a manic lunge for my locks, phew they are locked. I always feel quite vulnerable particularly in busy shopping areas. My friend would wind her handbag around the gear stick, this always amused me, I would imagine someone grabbing the bag and unwittingly ending up with the gear stick in their hands. (No of course that couldn’t happen). It’s more about personal safety as a Woman that’s why I insist on locking my door. On another safety note if you are involved in an accident and you have to be rescued from your car whether or not you have locked your door is irrelevant.
Only get out when you have reached your destination.
I don’t know about you, I have a problem about stopping on route to my destination. I admire people who can just get a call then make an unscheduled stop. This sort of call puts me in a flap, when I set out I like to know where I am going, I do a mental assessment of where I am going to park.
Where to park
Always be cautious when parking. Choose your spot carefully, take into consideration the time of day you may be returning to your car. Roads that look safe during the day can take on a sinister look later when it is dark. Try to at least park near a street light.
-Well lit area, do not park too far away from your houses,
When parking always reverse into a spot, this allows for an easy and fast exit if needed.
Being followed - If you suspect you are being followed, try to loose them, Ok don’t try and loose them remember you are not starring in the ‘Fast and the Furious’. When you get done for speeding, I don’t think it would be acceptable to say ‘I was being followed Officer’, and let someone know about the situation, if possible drive to the nearest Police Station, if you can find one, Never confront your suspected stalker, tell someone, be prepared to questioned and even mocked for some reason find it amusing, it is assumed you have to be famous before you can encounter this experience of being stalked. if it seems suspicious it probably is mention it to someone.
Should you wear a seatbelt?
That’s a trick question, of course . of course you should wear a seatbelt, it’s not an accessory it is an essential safety device. I know many women who don’t wear seatbelts, their reasons range from, it’s uncomfortable, it will crease my top, it flattens my breast, and it will leave a dirty mark. My answer to all of that is Going through the windscreen at 40 miles an hour will kill you!
There are various things you can put on a seatbelt, to make it more comfortable and also prevent it from 1, creasing your to to 2, making your top dirty.
If you have an accident -
Do not leave car, unless it would be dangerous to remain in car, wait for the specialist services, don’t rely on anyone to make that call, do it yourself if you are able, do not get into a conversation with the other driver (at this point emotions are running high), you may utter the words ‘Sorry’ that would later be deemed your acceptance of blame.
